    Does anybody.....

Make boxes for your reloaded ammo?

I find that I have an almost renewable resource of Labatt Blue boxes, so when I can't burn them, I cut them up and fold them into ammo boxes.

MTM & Plano make my ammo boxes.

So how do you make the folded edges, do you score one side of the cardboard then fold?

I prefer MTM, they have an actual hinge instead of a molded hinge that breaks over time.
But I'll often reuse factory boxes until they can't be used anymore...

Yeah, just score with a scribe, fold and staple. I typically make 100rnd boxes

I'd be interested in your .45 ACP template.

Ok, They are in cardboard form right now. I want to put them in digital form for archiving. I'll post it as an attachment when it's done.

I'd imagine the 45 boxes would work for 40 also, just be a little looser...
Might have to look into that, Guinness 40cal boxes would make great conversation pieces

See?! Pretty cool. I can't drink Mt.Dew (can't stand it), but my lady likes it. So, I made a Mt. Dew box for my reject loads

    45 ACP Box template

Well here is a quick template for ya. I tried to post the PDF but it was too big. I whipped these up real quick to give you an idea.

Typically, you would staple the bottom of the box with the staple crimp facing outward and staple the top with the staple crimp facing inward. This way, the staple crimps catch each other and create sort of a "lock"

I take the trimmed pieces and cut a divider. The key is to stack the rounds alternately (like shot shells) to fit them in the box and distribute the weight evenly.

If you want the PDF version, just pm me with your email and i'll send it to you (it's only 2MB)

The PDF version you can select the "Actual Size" option, print and cut it out and all the dimensions will be correct.

    Enjoy!

My "batch size" exceeds most peoples.........

For all my pistol chamberings, I fill the smaller 30 caliber army ammo boxes. They'll hold about 1,000 pcs of 9mm, .40, 357 Sig, and 45 ACP. I do the same with my 223 Remington (5.56) ammo, except those go in the larger 50 cal sized boxes, on stripper clips (10 to a strip, all ready to get loaded in mags using a "Strip-Lula") I can get about 860 rounds in one of those boxes that way. My batch size for 223 rem is 3500 pcs...

All of the other brass I reload for (an additional 25+ chamberings) go into plastic live hinge type MTM boxes. I get whatever is on sale, or what I can scrounge at yard sales, etc.

For me, paper boxes are too time consuming, too easy to damage, and represent too small a batch size for me. But, some of you like that idea, so be it.

Wow! You clearly would be the exception to the rule. I currently reload 3 chamberings and typically have about any where between 300 - 600 loaded rounds on hand. I couldn't imagine making 30+ box templates let alone the start-up time it would take to make the boxes for 500+ rounds for each type of caliber/chambering.

The ammo boxes made from 24-pack boxes solved 3 issues for me:
    1) It provided a reusable way to compactly store my loaded rounds in a box that was relatively durable
    2) It provided a "tupperware" context in which i could give my friends ammo
    3) It was the only abundant and reoccurring material I had on hand to keep my batches separate and divided into known quantities

Plus, it's kinda nice to see people's faces when you ask them "Hey, could you grab me a box of the Mt.Dew 9mm?"

OK I made one but with some modifications.

    DSC00617.jpg

    DSC00616.jpg

Subtracted 1/4 inch from the length and should have added 3/8 inch to the height for the 45 acp.

Edit: Sorry about the blurry picture.

Here's my first box. Now I need to load up some .45 in order to fill up the box.

Nice, I like Dr Pepper too. I like the way you did the center divider, let us know how it works out.
