Same bullets retrieved at 100 yards from a 45-70 @ 1665fps muzzle velocity.

This is my first experience with the powder through expander. It does flare the case if you adjust it almost all the way down. I may see if I can take it apart and see what size the button is before...

Thanks Duke!
The strange part is these bullets are working out well for me in my 45-70 @ 1665fps.
I'm still testing loads with the same bullet but so far in the 458socom I'm only getting around...

The bullets were sized .457".
Hardness is about a BHN11.
Lee’s Powder Through Expanding Die was used.
The cases were flared as fully as the die would allow.
Crimp was from the Pacesetter Die not...

I assume this is from the edge of one of the lube grooves.
The couple that I have found were almost a perfect ring.
Best I can tell it is happening on about 1 out of 10 rounds while shooting....

Usually eyeballing it various ways while shouldered or in a rest.
A few firearms and scopes will allow you to use a straight edge on a flat surface of both or either, checking for squareness.

The pixel count is the likely problem.
Back away from the subject and then zoom in on it.
The picture will be a little grainy but you won't have to resize to get a lesser pixel count.

I can’t stay focused on one item long enough to complete it. Good case and point was a slide bolt AR pistol in 300aac. I ended up with a semi auto ambidextrous side charge.
Now I’m still...

I bought or had a few differing weights and styles of bullets and felt the need to try them.
It got so bad I also started buying more firearms to experiment with too!
The 300aac has turned into a...

For the life of me I can’t work this out.
These are the 220gr #30181 Nosler bullets.
Every single load with 2400 or 1680 keyholes.
Velocity ranged from 1100fps to 1240fps.
Lee factory crimped,...

Started testing some loads with a 7 1/2" barrel.
AA1680 with 135gr Sierra #2124 averaged 1533fps.
AA1680 with 150gr Rem. PSPCL averaged 1438fps.
AA2230 with powder coated 166gr Lee c309-160-R...

gandog was on to something worrying about them being able to stabilize.
I may try increasing the velocity to see if they straighten out.
I was able to accomplish that with some long bullets in a...

Some more with the Nosler #30181:
This is the 300AAC pushed with 11.5gr of AA1680 at 1195fps from a 16" barrel with a pistol length gas system and 1:8" twist.
Everything cycled great but this is...

This is from the shooting bench today using the Nosler #30181:
The 308 was loaded with 15.0gr of IMR-3031.
Average velocity was 930fps.
Firearm was a Remington 750 Carbine.
They would not cycle....

It is surprising just how few people reload for this cartridge and use heavier than...

I just did Berger's stability formula. Even at a 1080fps muzzle velocity the bullet is adequately stable in a 1:10" twist.
Forum: General chit chat
The 300AAC has a 1:8" and the .308WIN has a 1:10".
The bullet is 1.420" in length so stability might be close in the 1:10".
Testing for velocity and function first. Expansion and accuracy tests...

Ready for chronograph.
Each loaded to about 1080fps.

A couple of more today.
AA1680 with 135gr Sierra #2124 averaged 1940fps and a little less than 1" groups at 50 yards.

So,
20.0gr of AA1680 averaged 1940fps with the 135gr HP.
Groups were a little less than 1" at 50 yards.

So far this is what I've tested for velocity and function.
Trail Boss with 150gr PSPCL averaged 850fps, as expected it did not cycle the action.
2400 with 150gr PSPCL averaged 1530fps.
2400...

So much for trying the CFE-BLK, none to be had.
Gonna try some AA1680.

I'm finding Hodgdon's CFE-BLK interesting. Data available for 110gr to 230gr.
Max load with the Sierra 135gr is listed as a compressed 22.5gr 2090fps charge but only at 37,000 PSI pressure.
I've...
