I just received some 45acp brass in trade today, most of it looks to be older winchester brass. My question is: most of the brass has a slight ring part of the way up the case, is it safe to reload these?
The majority of them just have the visible ring on the outside, but a few have a pronounced groove where the case pushes in on the inside as well. I have some powrball ammo in 40s&w that has the same type of ring, I'm assuming it's just a crimp to hold the bullet in place?
I'll try to get a picture later of that brass.

It's called a cannelure, those are put in intentionally to prevent bullet set back. Perfectly safe to use and 45ACP brass lasts almost forever...

That's what I thought, just wanted to check... As a matter of fact, some of that brass is headstamped W-W 79...

The one on the extreme left is OVER done, and possibly dangerous. I'd set that one, and any others like it, aside in your scrap bin.

Yeah, I had 2 like that in the box, they went into the scrap metal can with all of the other unusable stuff...
On a side note, what do you guys do with your spent primers? I have a 1lb coffee can that's is full of spent primers... Can I take them to a metal salvage place or should I just toss it in the trash?

I took in my spent primers and cases to the scrap metal company and they took all of it. I couldn't believe it.

MAN I GOT RIPPED !!! A few months ago I took 85 pounds to a recycling station and only received 60.00. I was disappointed but didn't know any better. Most of the brass was good reloadable brass. At least I took the money and bought 2 pounds of powder.
