I tumbled 100 30-06 LC '69 once fired cases. I'm getting ready to load for my new to me 1955 all matching M1 Garand. I was wondering if anyone has a load that emulates M2 ball using these military cases and Sierra 150 gr FMJBTs. Looking at a number of different loading manuals I think either 49 Grs of IMR 4064 or 48 grs of IMR 4895 will be close. What say you all?

FWIW, the Hornady reloading manual has a section specifically for the M1 Garand. It lists 6 powders for the 150-155 grain range, H335; Accurate 2495; Accurate 2520; Vihtavouri N-135; Varget; & H4895. H4895 and IMR4895 are pretty close, if not the same, and the Hornady manual lists the max charge for H4895 at 46.4 gr.

Beat me to it, I was going to tell him to get the Hornady manual. Anyways, I have it, do you have a favorite powder on hand? I use Hodgdon H4895.

Yup, 48 grains of 4064 is really good with 150 grain bullets.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
I do have access to the Hornady manual. What I was wondering is what people are settling on for a load. My thoughts are, I'd like to start my load workup with a load that directly emulates the M2 ball loads in a Garand. Then I can tailor that load to my rifle. So I guess my question is, what loads are you using to emulate M2 ball?

Here's what 48 grains of 4064 looks like from a 24 inch barrel when I use the quickload ballistic calculator.
It says pressure is 49,000 psi, velocity is 2785 fps, kinetic energy is 2584 fpe, 97.81% of the powder is burned, the muzzle pressure is 7934 psi and the case capacity is at 95.8%

Wow SafetyJoe, Thanks loads for the screen shot and taking the time to do it!
That tells me all I needed to know for IMR4064.
Do you think I could impose on you to post a screen shot using IMR4895 and Sierra 150 FMJBT, to get around 2800fps?

48.1 grains, chamber pressure is lower, but muzzle pressure is higher than 4064 and case capacity is 5% lower

Well crap, I don't rightly remember, and my loads are out in the shed. Off the top of my head I am thinking 45 grains of H4895 with a 150 grain projectile. I'll check them later.
