How many 38s would you like in trade for your 243s?

The general population is not aware of the following:
Virtually ALL of the ammunition manufacturers are making military contract ammunition. When they switch from commercial ammo to military ammo (and back), one of the changes is the brass, and primers. Hodgdon openly admits that the mil spec for the powder for 5.56 NATO is the exact same as their BLC-(2). The production line is the same. One of the differences between NATO (military) ammo and commercial is the crimp ring.

I find, in the many many reloading classes that I do, and my own production of 223 Rem, that many of the commercially marked (223 Rem) brass are actually coming through with crimped primer pockiets. That is to say, that I find that the new primers won't go into the pockets easily until and unless I de-crimp the pockets first.

So, you can request whatever you want in trade, it;s your post. But, just know that commercial brass, marked 223 Rem, still needs to be de-crimped prior to reloading it. The manufacturers leave that hollow, round, crimping tool in place between setups.

I load them both the same, side by side, when I am running that chambering. I won't debate the microscopic difference in case volume. There's never any real civilian need to load these cases to max pressures like the military seems to do. The best harmonic accuracy for me and my rifles happens somewhere near the lower end of the velocity range. Same load development works for both NATO and commercial.

    Just my two cents worth.

Only 223 I've seen that never has a crimp is remington head stamp. Most of the federal and winchester head stamps are now crimped.

everything new I'm seeing now at the range in 223 is crimped. I run everything I pick up through a Dillion decrimper anyway.

Thank you for the reply, I have been having trouble with priming the swaged cases.
So was wondering if there was a better way faster?

I use the dillon 600 super swage that costs around $100
If you use the $12 swage gauge you can properly adjust your swager.
