    Post brass drought?

is it just me? but it apears that there is just no brass to be found.

    peps picking up?
    peps not shooting?

used to pick up bags of the stuff. (many calibers), now hard to find any.

a ca thing? but been this way for months now.
not like i need any empty's. as i have buckets (1000's if not 10's of 1000's per cal) to process. and load up.

but to be able to walk around enjoying the fresh clean air for hrs picking up brass. now almost nothing.
what i shoot = far more than i find these days.

My local range closed for the winter a few weeks ago, but I did notice somewhat of a drop off towards the end. Maybe the election has a lot to do with it or maybe it's the new ammo laws in your state. I have a feeling that things will slow down for a while. I haven't updated my trades thread in a while, but once I finish going through the brass I've accumulated this year I will.

I think the ranks of reloaders (or potential "I think I'll do that one day" reloaders) has grown due to the efforts of the guvmint over the past 8 years. I really don't find too much outside of 9mm, some .40 S&W and .223/5.56, and a little .45 ACP. Sometimes I will get lucky and find something other than those, but usually not in any great number. I think I found maybe 20 pieces of 7.62 NATO a few months ago. I haven't been to the Uchee range in the Tuskegee National Forest in a while. I may have better luck there. I think fewer of the folks that use that range are likely to be reloaders.

I just haven't been shooting as much lately, but even when I do manage to make it to the range I haven't found much brass... Even the geardos who are usually good for a couple hundred 5.56 are taking their brass with them.

When it hasn't been too cold, like this morning, I have had company over for two weeks, and needed to keep my Libtard gun hating brother amused while he was here. He leaves tomorrow back to his home.

weather here has been hit and miss wet. but no mater what day of the week (i work weekends) almost always somebody there shooting. and picking up.
snow level this past weeks storm is above 8K feet. shooting area is under 2K feet.

maybe need another gun show in the area so peps buy cases of reloads and go blast it out in a day.

but if nothing else gives me a chance to catch up on the buckets of cases. just need a lot more lead.

First the weather has been uncooperative. Most of the brass I trade is stuff I pick up for free at the range. If people aren't going, they aren't leaving anything behind. Second I had my brother up from Milwaukee down here for two weeks, and shooting is not his thing. I mentioned going a couple times, he showed no interest.

I figure it will pick up now that everyone has their new Christmas firearms.

It got real cold down here (At least cold for Southern Alabama) Hasn't been a lot of people going to the range. It has been raining here since about Thursday, so neither have I.

I am thinking about going out this Friday if it isn't too cold. Problem be, most the cases I pick up are the common types. Only once there did I stumble upon a great stash. Somebody apparently was shooting .454 Casull and .45 Colt and left all the cases on the ground. The guy next to him was apparently doing the same with .357 Magnum. I never find good stuff like 8mm, 7X57, .300 WinMag.....

I just finished sorting out the stuff that I've picked up since summer. Out of nearly 2300 cases about 25% were 9mm and another 25% were 223. I had a few calibers that I only found 1 of and several that I only found 5 or 6 of. I do find some neat stuff around deer season, but not as much as in the distant past.

Last year I saw 2 or 3 times more 9mm than 223 and hardly any 40S&W anymore, but twice as much 45 acp as I used to. I think the 40 S&W shooters switched to 45 and 9mm. I saw about the same amount of 380acp as 38 special and 357 mag. Lower on the scale was 308, 30-06, 30-30, 44 mag and even lower down on the scale was 7.62x39, 7.62x54r, 45 colt, 243, 303 brit, 30 carbine, and 10mm. Compared to past years the biggest change I saw was between 40 S&W and 45 acp. One went way down and the other went way up. I also didn't find as much 270 win last year for some reason. Compared to past years that dropped by at least half, but probably close to 4 times less than normal.

    Just for kicks, here is a run down of my finds since last summer. In no particular order;

    50 - 7 mag
    13 - 7-08
    8 - 25-06
    43 - 243
    57 - 300 bo
    6 - 45 colt
    2 - 44 mag
    2 - 5.7-28
    6 - 25 auto
    133- mixed 38/357
    145 - 45 acp
    566 - 9mm ( mostly commercial)
    130 - 308
    112 - 270 win
    49 - 380
    189 - 40 s&w
    77 - 30-06
    3 - 280 rem
    5 - 22-250
    1 - 260
    7 - 30-30
    1 - 270 wsm
    6 - 7 stw
    15 - 300 rum
    3 - 7x57
    9 - 6mm
    5 - 300wm
    4 - 300wsm
    559 - 223rem (mostly crimped primers)

I don't keep records from year to year so I'm going by memory here. In past years the 40's rivaled the 9's and there were more 380's in the last few years. There were more 38/357 this year. In the distant past I found more 7x57, 303 and 8x57. Also, 30-30 was a big number. 30-06 and 270 seems to continue having a loyal following. Anything currently used by the military or LE is always popular.

My range membership is based on the calendar year... I'll need to scrounge up $35 for that...
