    Old Technolgy meets New Technology

Here is a few of images of the changes I made to my newest old rifle. 1906 Carcano 28TS carbine. I removed the original sight and fabricated a replacement fixture (picattiny) rail to hold a red dot sight. The original sight was set to 600 meters and I don't have plans to shoot this rifle quite that far. Not out to 100 yards it will group about 6 to 8 inches.

I sort of did that to a Mosin Nagant with a scout scope mount.

Adding these new sights to our older rifles make them easier to shoot in what is now our shooting world, rather than across enemy lines.

LEP, you might consider doing something similar so you don't have to guesstimate where to put the front sight (normally 3 feet low) to hit the target. Just a thought.

Unfortunately, I have 8 Carcanos in 6.5mm. They all have different personalities, also. That would be a bit of work to modify them all.

Nice! I made a deliberate decision, even tho I have a progressive press, to not reload for my handguns. Apparently our tastes are similar. I shoot handguns, but not reload, 7.65 Nagant, 7.62x25 (CZ-52&TT-33), 32 ACP (FN M1922), 380 (Beretta M1934), 45 (M1911 GI), 9x18 (CZ-82), 9mm (P-38 & Mak).
I also load for 30-30, 450/577, 45-70, 38-40, but don't need any components for them.
    Load and shoot: 6.5mm (Dutch, Jap., Carcano, Swede), 7x57, 7.35 Carcano, 7.5mm (Mas, Swiss), 303 British, 7.65x53, 7.7 Jap, 7.62x51, 30-06, 8x50R & 8x52R Siamese, 30-40 Krag, 8x57, 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, 8x 56R, 30 Carbine, 450/577 Martini, 300 Win Mag, 45 LC.

I've done that! I had my 8X56R dies before I got my first Steyr M95 in.

Cool but still more than me, 45 acp, 380 acp and 308 Win. 5 molds, 2 for the 45 and 308 and one for the 380.

I don't actually have a 30-06 either, but I load for my dads enfield.

I'd like to get into casting. Mainly for 40 and 45, but I could make some good loads for the 300aac too.

Start with the 45 either acp or Colt both are straight walled with tons of load data. You can get started with a steel pot and hot plate real cheap then if you like it expand.

I have a reduced load for larger caliber rifles with a 150 cast gas checked bullet (Powder coated or plain) I use it in .308, .303 Brit, 30.06, 7.7 Jap, and 7.62X54R. I would bet it is probably OK for 300 Blackout. All of them over 13 grains of Red Dot powder. It isn't quite a .22 LR recoil, but it ain't bad. Only bad part is I have to use a uniform case expander so I don't shave lead off the bullet seating them.

Trail Boss powder. Impossible to overload with cast bullets.

So far 10 grains of Unique is working great with a 168 grain lead bullet. Tiny kick and it still breaks the sound barrier. It's really cool getting a little pop out of the rifle and then the crack of bullet.

Funny. I bought 8x56R ammo in Yuma 5 years before I bought the rifle.
