Hey, that's pretty neat. I always like to see someone who knows how to create things. I make 300 blk from 223 brass for personal use, but your conversion has a lot more history to it which makes it a lot cooler in my book.
Good luck to you

01-12-2017, 03:41 AM
Thank you sir.
Good luck to you also.

PS The 256 rimless is a lot like 300 BLK

For anyone needing 32-40, the first 6 in the leather carrier are stages.292293

interested in 32-40 and 38-55 brass

09-27-2017, 12:01 PM
This is a trade only site, so whatcha got?

I do the conversions for exercise, so I don't need much.

A friend commented that most would not believe that the 556 to 256 flow chart was realistic.
The untouched 556 is too beat up to be anything but trash. I bought a bag of 556 brass as trash. Stomped and crushed in various ways. The combination of pictures below shows an ugly piece of trash/brass in 3 stages. (1)Original condition, (2)after rounding the nose some with a pair of pliers and pushing it into a 256 seater die, (3) after pushing it into a 256 forming die.

The marks at the bottom of the brass make it clear that this is three views of the same piece of brass. Most of the remaining marks go away, and most of the neck will be cut off.

It really works!!291

That 256rwm looks like a pretty neat little round. Can you actually do the sizing in one step, or does it take multiple passes?

That 256rwm looks like a pretty neat little round. Can you actually do the sizing in one step,
Yes, but... with my trash brass the success rate was about 15% one pass.

or does it take multiple passes?...better than 90% success rate with the flow chart shown.

I find this as 256 Universal from back in the early '60s.

09-30-2017, 07:35 PM
Do you use normal 256 win mag load data with the rimless conversions?

10-01-2017, 05:33 AM
Yes, and a 1/4" dowel from the muzzle for an extractor in my T/C.

10-01-2017, 06:11 AM
Ahh, so your gun is actually chambered for the rimmed variant. I guess 223/5.56 brass is more plentiful than 357mag brass ;)

10-01-2017, 09:49 AM
"A 30 carbine bolt becomes a 256 rimless bolt with a small modification."
...if so, the bolts swap fast and the rifle should eat both.

Thank you for the .256 win mag brass. They are perfect for me to start out with. ibgp3 makes some good custom brass here guys.

My first 256 Universals from the 556's Blackhawk357 sent. (256 "Whisper" as the AR15 was being introduced.)

12-12-2017, 07:28 PM
looking for 327 federal brass for my Henry.

12-12-2017, 08:33 PM
I have about 40 or so pcs of 327 Fed nickle brass. I'll trade for most anything I can use. Got any Mauser parts??

12-13-2017, 04:50 AM
Sorry, no Mauser parts, but lots of different kinds of brass.

12-13-2017, 07:56 AM
I can use 450 Bushmaster, 280 Rem, 6.5x68, 8x68, 9.3x64, 30 Newton brass. A sporter weight 7mm barrel, Lee 280 AI dies, Lee trim studs for 6.5 CM, 260, 7-08 .....
I have some 375 Ruger basic brass, do you have the stuff needed to make it into 30 Newton??

12-13-2017, 08:03 AM
Wow! All the choices, and the only match of any kind is 6.5CM, and all I have is lots of brass, no trim stud.

12-13-2017, 09:23 PM
I'll trade ya the 327 for some 6.5CM brass

12-14-2017, 05:47 AM
I'll dig some out and get back to ya.

12-14-2017, 07:31 PM
All I have found so far are some conversions. 6.5CM from 243, 270, and others.
If I match up 100 from those, would you be interested?

12-15-2017, 07:43 AM
I can live with that. I have 44 total of the nickle 327 Fed cases

12-15-2017, 12:15 PM
The single in a red circle is nickle.
The 5 in the yellow loop show varying degrees of fireform.
The 3 in the red circle include a fully fireformed case in the middle, a fired but not fully fireformed case on the left, and an unfired case on the right.
Mostly I just did low to medium loads. They worked the action on my AR and went to the same point of aim at 100 from the AR and the bolt and H&R. Just good fun.
Reformed cases do not have the same capacity as factory, or each other.
This is 52 rounds of unfired 250 savage reformed, and 48 rounds of 270Win reformed.
They show age, like me.
I can put them in a Priority mailer and send them off,
...you can say never mind and I will put them back on the shelf.
Thanks either way.
