My nephew is home on leave from the Army, and just bought his first pistol, a Taurus 1911 .45 ACP. So he calls me and says "When are you going to take me shooting"? (Translation, how many .45 reloads ya got?) I took him, a buddy and a few guns tomy range. That kid blw me away. He is a WAY better shot than me. We went through about 5 boxes of 10mm and 7-8 boxes of .45. I got to fire my new Mosin Nagant 91/59 for the first time and it is WAY durned accurate. Of course the kid shoots my new rifle and was smoking me on it. He was hitting a metal hanging target at 200 yards with the iron sights. I could hardly even SEE that target with my old ancient eyeballs. The only bad thing was it must have been 98 degrees out there.

If that boy ever gets sent into an enemy dust up, I feel sorry for the bad guys. He is a natural good shot!

Now I am getting the pleasure of cleaning up all that brass to reload.

Unfortunately, the eyes don't stay as good as they are at that age... Back when I was in, I could hit the 300m target with irons on my (then brand new) M4. Now I can barely even see the thing without a scope...

My first 5 shots. Wasn't even using my reloads. Wanted to see the accuracy with old Russian milsurp ammo I have.

I've worn glasses since 3rd grade so, needless to say, I'm not a great shot. I don't remember my 91/59 being terribly accurate, but I didn't shoot it but once or twice and when I did I shot it more for stress relief. The fire that came out of the muzzle coupled with the loud report made for quite a show.

That's cool that you've got one that's accurate. Stress relief and marksmanship practice all in one unit.

I have had up to 5 different Mosin Nagant carbines. Two of them were 91/59's. I also have an M38 and an M44. I had a Chinese T53, but sold it to raise up some money for a new Finn Mosin Nagant. The two 91/59's are without a doubt the most accurate of any of the Mosin Nagant carbines I have shot. Even better is that they both are just about as accurate as each other. Like I said, nephew was pinging a steel target hanging at 200 yards, and that was with iron sights. While my target shows it shoots a little bit high at 50 yards, he was holding a six o:clock position on the steel and whacking the crap out of it.

This reminds me, I haven't shot my Win 95 chambered in 7.62X54R lately. Peep sights on it, little easier for my old eyeballs to sight in with. Next range trip!

gandog56,

You're starting to make me regret selling my rifle. Below is a picture of the 91/59 I had.

Bet it didn't look that nice when you got it. So why did you sell it?

62 chevy,

It actually looked that good when I bought it. I purchased it from a local pawn shop for somewhere around $80-$90. The only bad thing about it was that the butt-plate had a very sharp corner on the top left (if you were holding the gun horizontally in front of you with the muzzle down range and the magazine facing the ground) that was a little too close for comfort when shooting. A minute or so with a Dremel could have solved that issue, though.

I sold it to help fund the purchase of an Enfield No 1 Mk 4*.

At least you bought it at a good price WarEagleEd.

I think my first 91/59 was $132. I won't even tell you what I had to pay for the latest one. Dang you Obozo, have you drove up gun prices enough yet?
