I made a brass trade here for some .45 Colt brass. I got the package, and like half of them are REM-UMC nickel plated brass. I went to size them, and my Lee#11 shellholder does not fit them. It fit all the other brass, just not these ones. The nearest shellholder that sort of fit them I had was a Lee #5 , which is for my .303 Brit reloads. And it doesn't fit them well, just barely works, still really tight to get it in the shellholder. When I looked closer at the brass, it doesn't have the groove cut in it just above the rim, like the normal .45 Colt brass. Pulled out my .454 Casull pistol, and they seemed to fit in the cylinder ok, so I'm still going to reload them.

But is there something about REM-UMC brass I've never heard of?

It's likely 1930's brass.......

I had some 44 special with small primers in it, same brand. Was told mine was 30's.

Just strange to me that .45 colt cases do not fit in a .45 Colt shellholder.

I have some 223 that doesn't fit in the standard (lee#4) shellholder, but not sure of the headstamp.

As I recall, Lee says the 45 Colt uses 11 OR 14. When I read that the first time, wondered what that was about. Could this be it?

Yeah, but I don't have any dies with a #14. And I'm not going to get one if I don't know if it would fit. I mean for all I know, they are almost the exact same size.

The difference is that most of the shell holder makers presume that it is the NEW type brass, with the undercut. You could take your Dremel tool, and open up the opening for the existing holder... I have done that in a pinch on other calibers (where I was too stingy to buy a new holder)...

Well, I have the mechanical ability of a rotten orange. I have to keep going to youtube videos to reassemble my Mosin Nagant bolts. As long as I can get by using my .303 Brit shellholder, it will do. I mean I only have like 30 something of these.
